Re: Limits on rentals with or without absentee landlords

At Cornerstone in Cambridge MA, we’ve had some renters who’ve been top-notch,
A+ community participants.  And we’ve had some owners who act mostly like
sullen hermits.

More broadly … in America, two-thirds of households are owners, and one-third,
renters.  In Cambridge, it flips:  Two-thirds are renters, and just one-third,
owners.  But as a city, Cambridge remains safe and successful, with a very high
rate of diversity and civic participation.  Meanwhile, I regularly encounter
stories on television or in print about suburban homeowner activists who, to my
admittedly distant eye, look and feel intolerant, self-serving and politically
retrograde.

My conclusion, based on lived and observed experience, is that the supposed
correlation between ownership and citizenship is over-rated.

Technically there isn't. But in reality, people who are buying homes are
much more concerned about the location of the house and getting along with
neighbors. Renters have less skin in the game!
