Hager Homestead in Massachusetts is ready for move-in -- but our developer's agent is finding that no one wants to insure a cohousing community. Apparently those who insure cohousing have had "bad experiences". Who does have insurance? If so, who insures your community? What provisions did the insurer require of you? Another issue: apparently, we also need to have a "manager", and we are finding it hard to find anyone who wants to deal with a 26-unit community. I believe lenders (and possibly insurers) would require a manager. What is the experience out there? We intend -- even though we are over-55 -- solving most of our problems ourselves, but I am soliciting others' experiences. Thanks in advance for your wisdom and feedback.Barbara SmithHager Homestead
