I don't know if anyone has replied by mail, but I am going to reply to the
list in case anyone else is curious.
The Northeast Cohousing Quarterly (insert in region's Cohousing journal)
shows that there is a cohousing group in Portland, in a very early stage.
I can send more info if you want. Portland is the largest city in Maine
(population 60,000), but has some rural suburbs.
What part of the Maine coast do you want to live on? This is an important
question because the coast is 150+ miles long and has a wide range of envir-
onments from urban to wilderness. Would the N.H. seacoast be OK? (That coast
is only 18 miles long, and I don't know of any cohousing groups there.)
The Kennebec Valley cohousing community, which is the only built community
in Maine, is a LONG distance from the coast.
What other types of communities would you consider? I don't know of any
intentional communities on the Maine coast, but I have never looked into it.
Someone with access to the national directory of intentional communities and
a map of Maine (to determine which towns are on the coast) could check this
out.
I think the Maine coast would be a good place for cohousing; I hope someone
(in addition to the Portland group) tries to start a group.
