Cohousing-L Mailing List: off-site members

Do any cohousing communities have non-resident members?  These  
would be folks who, for whatever reason, don't live in the cohousing  
community, but live nearby and wish to be in community.  They might  
participate in  cooking or other tasks, attend meetings, maybe pay  
some sort of membership fee, and even vote on certain issues.   What  
experience do you have with this?  How do these folks participate  
in the work, finances, and decision-making?  What reasons does your  
community have for wanting/not wanting such members?
