Dear Grace, 
A novel that might give you some insight into both polyamory, and the 
idealism, courage and activism of the sixties, but set 50 years into the 
future is The Fifth Sacred Thing, by Starhawk.  

I highly recommend it.   Also, it has some interesting meeting formats.  And 
some fascinating commentary on living in community, and the honesty required. 
 And some funny commentary on the "thousands of hours of meetings" required 
to accomplish their goals.
