As I read the thread on kitchen duties, the image that comes to mind is one of school camp duties. Too many potatoes to peel, too much fun happening elsewhere, lacking the skills to do more of the creative work. Usually the kitchen would be a point most people would gravitate towards. When we have people over, most seem quite happy to join in the preparation, as long as this is accompanied by a chat, catching up, a glass of wine. I wonder what needs to happen aesthetically etc. to make the common house kitchen such a magnet. Perhaps there is an optimal frequency for meals, as well as lighter uses of the kitchen such as having a coffee etc. Are kitchens cosy enough?
