The real trick, though, is in choosing which values, principles, ethics, and goals to use to screen your community-mates. Obviously a lot of "free the cats" people have joined with a lot of "confine the cats" people in various communities. If we use every value conflict of that sort to screen who we'll be in community with (or in relationship with), we'll end up alone. My community does have values that we use to screen people. How they feel about the freedom of cats (and lots of other issues) isn't among them. Thus we still need to deal with conflict.
