Avoiding conflict never resolves it.  It just drives it underground.  The
result is that the people who want to do something step on the sensitivities
of the people who don't want them to do it.  Eventually, I predict, it will
explode into some kind of a fight, though the apparent issue may be
something entirely different.

One of the things that keeps conflict from being resolved is people getting
caught up in "I'm right, and you're wrong" arguments instead of focusing on
"Here's what I really want; tell me what you really want, and let's keep
talking until we find a way that we can both be satisfied."  I see a lot of
that on this list about the cat issue.
