Hello cohousers,
Answer this morning if possible, so I can take info to our community
meeting today.
I'm a member of Milagro Cohousing, which is in the building phase in
Tucson, Arizona. We have 28 homes, being built in 4 phases. We
currently have 3 vacancies - one in phase 1, one in phase 2 and one in phase
3. Since we want to attract more families, we have had a policy to replace
a family that drops out with another family. The three vacant houses were
previously reserved by families. Phase 1 will be complete and ready for
move-in in early December.
So we have a dilemma. Most of our members are advocating opening up
sales to any interested parties, but others really want to wait for
families.
What advice do you have? Our houses are pricey for this area because
we bought a large amount of land (43 acres of lovely desert) and due to our
environmental design - adobe with passive solar, total recycling of waste water,
etc. While we all want more children, we are afraid that we can't afford
to turn away interested parties without children.
Has it been any group's experience that when some houses are finished
families are easier to attract? That's the persistent rumor I hear about
cohousing developments, but have no specifics to back that up.
I appreciate any information on this topic, even if it's not in time for
our meeting today.
Thanks,
Natalie
