Re: Service Dogs

Just to be clear here. I am far from suggesting that service dogs be banned
from the community or the common house (even *if* we legally could I
wouldn't want to). I am neither differently abled nor do I suffer from
severe allergies. I'm just trying to find out how communities deal with this
issue, as an example, where the two issues appear to conflict with each
other.

I know how creative cohousing communities can be when it comes to finding
solutions where it seems as though a solution can not be found. I would also
like to state, for the record, that I'm asking this question proactively.
Our common house is still on paper so I am trying to figure out how these
issues *will* be resolved.

So what I'm trying to say is, any experiences that communities have had,
whether it's recommendations you have or mistakes that we shouldn't
recreate, would be most helpful.

Banning service dogs, or in any way making them unwelcome by making it even
an issue for discussion, is in my perspective, very unaccepting and
inappropriate. So is suggesting that a disabled person depend on people who
are neither trained to support that individual nor having a relationship of
trust with the person needing assistance.
