I haven't said anything, for fear of muddying the waters on this topic, but since you ask what we would have done differently... I would have every level of the common house accessible, meaning an elevator to any floor that has no wheelchair-accessible entrance. In our case, it probably wouldn't have been possible, since we had serious money restrictions due to our affordability, but it still bothers me every time we want to have an event upstairs, but can't because not everyone can get there. Just having one place that a member can't go is unfair. Another thing we would have done differently if we could is to have all the homes visitable by a wheelchair. But since we are in a very flood-prone area, we would have been uninsurable(or it would have been prohibitively expensive) had we not made the first floors 3 feet off the ground. -- Liz Stevenson Southside Park Cohousing Sacramento California tamgoddess [at] attbi.com > > So what I'm trying to say is, any experiences that communities have had, > whether it's recommendations you have or mistakes that we shouldn't > recreate, would be most helpful. > > Jeanne Goodman > Jamaica Plain Cohousing > Boston, MA > > - _______________________________________________ Cohousing-L mailing list Cohousing-L [at] cohousing.org Unsubscribe and other info: http://www.communityforum.net/mailman/listinfo/cohousing-l
