I am on more than one cohousing list and seeing a lot of what people are doing. I am confused. I want to live in co housing and I made that decision after researching how co housing is defined. Check the faq's in cohousing org for this definition. I dont think it servers the cohousing community to allow what defines cohousing to become muddy. I see this definition as having two parts. Desire and Design. Take away one of those two and you have housing but not necessarily cohousing. A resent example is a group of houses I found listed on the cohousing.org list. There were 5 or 6 houses on one piece of property that a developer was trying to sell as cohousing. No common house and no designed vehicle access. Is this co housing? I dont think so. On another group I found a listing for a house for sale that could be split into three areas? Is this cohousing? I dont think so. Another in the planning stages for 32 units with a 2000 sgft common house. Is this cohousing? I dont think so. However they are all advertised as co housing. When the desire for cohousing and the incorrectly designed structure produces dissatisfaction is it going to give cohousing a bad name?
