Marshall Rosenberg often refers to the process as Compassionate
Communication.   I prefer this over "Non-Violent Communication" because
"Compassionate" says what it is, not what it isn't   One of the cues he
suggests  when making a request of others to fulfill a personal need, is:
  to ask clearly for what you do want, not for what you *don't* want.
