As a condo, Wasatch Commons, Salt Lake City, has to pay for private trash
pickup. We have 26 units and two dumpsters, one in each parking lot. They
are usually close to full by pickup day, once a week.

Originally there were three dumpsters, but they usually weren't full, so
after consideration we asked the company to retrieve the one by the common
house, and we use that dumpster enclosure for our recycling center. There
are big bins, and a guy who's comfortable with tools built platforms for a
second row of them. For a while we were paying somebody to pick the stuff
up and take it to recycling companies, but a resident who has a truck asked
if she could take the job over as her work contribution. The task is
currently complicated by a three-foot drop from the driveway of the
enclosure down to the road, since the pavement was ripped out -- several
months ago! ):-( -- to lay sewer lines for houses across the street.

The back porch of the common house has functioned as a collection &
redistribution site for donations, but periodically people get sick of the
perpetual clutter and call a moratorium, since the agreement on only putting
stuff out once a month, with a charity pickup scheduled the next week,
doesn't get observed.

We've held community yard sales, with varying success. The last time some
twerp pasted over our arrows and address on our signs with their own.
(Sorry -- seeing the dark clouds around silver linings today.)
