Hello, sorry to take a while to respond to questions, was in the throes of changes of email address. Didn't want to make Fred repost another of my messages, we work him too hard already.
There are currently about 9 people in the Dayton area in our talking group. Originally Kathryn Ervin and I made contact through this listserv, the rest came in relatively quickly, and more inquiries are arriving from time to time. We're lucky, I think, to have a nice mix of resources and skills--people with contacts in local government planning and zoning commissions, people with housing experience, people with nonprofit experience, others with even some flexible time and some funds to spare.
At this time we're getting ourselves organized, and we seem to be getting really serious. First step is to get an attorney, sign the papers, incorporate as a nonprofit, collect enough cash to pay the early bills, join Cohousing Network, and position ourselves for a huge recruitment push in May.
Hm, that looks like 5 steps doesn't it...which I anticipate will get several of you to say "that's about right"...
Having posted queries to this group last summer, I believe we're going to try to copy Austin TX and have a regional umbrella cohousing organization that will handle recruitment, public relations, legal, records, and whatever can be centralized, with as many affiliated cohousing communities as want to grow out of the effort. However, most of the current interest group have reasons to want an urban cohousing project near the center of Dayton.
