I'm willing to say why I want a 50+ community. I prefer adults. Having been a part of groups which planned the accomplishment of shared tasks and group activities with children (toddlers to teens) as an integral part, I simply disliked the chaos.
In other words, yes, it IS aimed at excluding children. And no matter what kind of face you try to put on it, it is discriminatory. I personally would prefer not to have to go to the trouble and expense of having to accommodate for people with disabilities, when I already have an extremely tight budget and anything extra seems like too much. But I understand that being inclusive is a principle of cohousing, moreover a principle that I myself believe in, so I'm willing to make the extra effort. Children are human beings with rights, not mere annoyances.
