How have other cohousing communities dealt with the Board of Directors issue? Recently we have been going through the formation of a Board of directors, since we are legally a condominium in the state of Michigan and, as such, must have a Board of Directors. This became important because we needed to change our Master Deed. They are also needed for other legal and insurance matters. I recently came across a class for board members. Topics include: ?Legal Aspects of Reserve Analysis and Budgeting ?Avoiding Legal Disputes and Liability ?Avoiding Director Liability ?Preventative Law - the Legal Audit ?Protecting the Attorney/Client Privilege Before & After Litigation ?In-depth Review of Bylaw Enforcement Procedures ?How to Run an Effective Board Meeting ?Alternatives for Collecting Assessments (legal & pragmatic) ?Duty to Act ?Various Types of Management Services ?Pragmatic Review of Management Contract I do not know much about some of the topics listed (Duty to Act? when? why?). Have other communities formed a Board of Directors?
