One question which comes up regularily at budget time is why join the Cohousing Network? What do you get for the joining fee? One answer to that was the glossy magazine. Even that never was convincing enough for my neighbors to spend $60 on. It would be interesting to see if memberships drop given the lack of a magazine.

The Cohousing Association (no longer the Cohousing Network) will be jumping into this discussion about the move from print to online magazine shortly. However, I feel the need to respond to the paragraph above right away. Rob, in case you haven't noticed, membership in the Association dropped to zero some months ago, because we no longer have members. However, I'm pleased to say that our supporter base is growing rapidly as the magazine has been broadcast now to our database, already reaching close to ten times the number of people who held paid memberships and received the print Journal when it was in publication. Also, a good number of people who never before were members (or who had long ago let their subscriptions/memberships lapse), have said that they are now eager to make tax deductible contributions to the Association to support our programs and the growth of the cohousing movement in the United States.
