I thought the whole point of going online was to reduce the considerable
costs involved in doing a printed magazine. Not only is there the cost of
the production, but also the cost of the time involved. There was a time
when geezers like me remember when the cohousing journal was a simple 4
page, black and white publication with few if any photos. This newsletter
was produced with volunteer labor. The last issue I saw was a glossy
magazine, in color, with tons of pictures.
The latter is very expensive to produce, the former is not. One question which comes up regularily at budget time is why join the Cohousing Network? What do you get for the joining fee? One answer to that was the glossy magazine. Even that never was convincing enough for my neighbors to spend $60 on. It would be interesting to see if memberships drop given the lack of a magazine.
