Tom,

Besides the links stuff that Tree talked about, something that is very
important to search engines is the "meta" stuff at the beginning of your
html code. I don't remember all the technical terms, but I hope what
follows gives you a general idea.

It looks like when you say that you tested various search terms, that you
were entering these search terms into Google. I looked at your source,
and there's nothing in there about "keywords". Look at the source for
Jamaica Plain Cohousing, and look at all the keywords they have.

http://www.jpcohousing.org/

They were on the second page when I searched on "cohousing Massachusetts",
and "Massachusetts" isn't even in their list of keywords!

I also found this article by entering "search optimization" (without the
quotes) into Google.

The general thrust is that you should have a title for your page that has
the keywords you want. So you'd have a title of something like "Concord
Village cohousing community in Pennsylvania". There's many more choices
of topics in the left frame, like "Google Optimization".

Hope that helps. Feel free to contact me off-line with more questions,
but it may take me a few days to get back to you.

(no, I didn't do our web page, and no, it apparently doesn't have keywords!)
