I live in Springhill Cohousing in Stroud SW England. It's beautiful
and fully occupied for 2 years. We have been eating in the common
house 4 times a week for just over a year. Occasionally the cooking
team play music during the meal, often left over from preparation. I
have a problem in mostly not liking music whilst I eat. Tonight I
asked the cooking team leader if I could turn it off half way through
the meal, she was fine with that. Another cohouser objected and
thought that I shouldn't take unilateral action in turning it off and
should at least seek some kind of consensus.
I have discussed this with a few friends and neighbours, most people
don't have strong opinions, a few like the music and another few
don't like it. My view is that the status quo should be no music
unless there is prior agreement to have it - but then I'm biassed and
may not be able to see the issues clearly. People seem a little
hesitant to have this issue come up at the residents meeting as it's
just another in a long line of issues from parking to pets.
Is this an issue in your community? What do you do? If it's never
arisen as an issue why is that?
thanks for listening David Michael
