Re: Very quick question

Ours started at 5000 sf for 34 households and I believe in the end will be 4500sf. We can really seat everyone for a common dinner, but it will be very tight, 75% will be quite comfortable.

Of course it just got drywall recently, no paint, but it'll be ready October 1, we hear! It seems large, but felt like the most important thing to for us to spend money on. Personally I'm quite pleased with that decision.

An important criteria for us was to have several rooms of different sizes (huge, big, medium, small, and cozy) so that we can change our minds and use the rooms differently, but we'll have a variety of sizes to choose from for a given purpose.

Songaia Common House: 3,400 for 13 homes - but according to Meltzer's study (as published in his book) we have an unusually high ratio. Our common house was retro-fitted from an existing single-family home - I'm sure we wouldn't
have built that much if new, like 10/13 of our homes. I think the most
critical issue is how participatory your community will actually be. Perhaps
this is another question which would be good to include in a future
census...

Hi All,

We have a very quick question with an answer needed urgently (by
Sunday a.m.):

we have a developer who is suggesting a 2500 sq ft common house for 34
families.

This seems small to me, and we could really use your quick estimate of
the sq ft of your common house and how many households it serves. We
could then come up with sq ft/household and see if our developer's
figures make sense. .

Sorry about the urgency: we have a landowner who wants an offer by
Monday, and a pro forma from the developer sent to us today that has
us asking lots of questions.

many thanks,
