using the word "volunteer"  for the time that is needed to make a 
community run sets up the expectation that it is optional to contribute 
to the community.  We've been also having the discussion about 
participation and work with it, in part asking what does it mean to be a 
self-managing community?  It is a commitment that is made when moving in....
