Hi John, I'll offer up some concrete evaluation. 1) You're going to have to start tracking who attends workdays and who does their chores carefully, as a result of these policies. Are you guys ready for that? You'll also need someone in charge of scheduling and of saying "no" you can't schedule this because you didn't do enough work. And then, of course, you'll need to offer up a 4 hour slot of some kind of work that someone can do, just so that they can schedule something in the CH. :) 2) I would leave out the cook/eat part of this proposal. It doesn't seem to fit to with the other items which are related to use of CH. 3) "Leave CH as clean as they found it". I would formalize this into a checklist, esp. if you're having non-residents use the CH, who may not be aware of changing norms. 4) Maybe you want to say something about recurring events -- like a monthly gathering or some such. What are the rules associated with being allowed to schedule out into the future. 5) There was some discussion here about scheduling events that were not "open to the public" (where public is any coho resident). Maybe you want to address this, or maybe your community norms already allow closed events. Nonresident owners can reserve common house only if they have participated in a work day within previous 6 months or have done 4+ hours of work for the community in past 6 months. They are encouraged to make a $ donation to cohousing for use of the common house too. Nonresident owners will be scheduled at a lower priority than resident's events. 2. Coho residents can reserve common house only if they have participated in a work day within previous 6 months or have done 4+ hours of work for the community in past 6 months. 3. No commercial events, meaning the primary purpose of the event is selling something. 4. Lessons or classes are OK if the student (or at least 1 student in a group class) is a coho resident and the lesson/ class is held in c.h. for student's convenience. 5. Spontaneous events by residents are encouraged and there is no formal process for them. 6. Only those on a cook team who regularly cook can sign up for meals. 7. All events will leave c.h. at least as clean as they found it including doing all laundry, putting away all clean laundry and dishes, and mopping floors. Thank you very much for your thoughts about the above common house use proposal, John Goldberg _________________________________________________________________ Cohousing-L mailing list -- Unsubscribe, archives and other info at: http://www.cohousing.org/cohousing-L/
