This is our problem right now. Not only are the understandings not written down but after 10+ years many people who were here then don't remember them. If the understanding was about children and they didn't have children then, they didn't focus on it. Now they have children and we have to start all over. Write it down and keep it up to date. New people feel embarrassed when they trip over an unwritten rule — even if everyone understands that they couldn't have known about it.
