Cats in urban and suburban areas are "crowded" as far as having enough 
territory to sustainably hunt in, and that is why they are a danger to wildlife 
(and why they fight amongst themselves so much).  One or two cats per square 
mile would not be an issue, but many cats all hunting in the same area are a 
menace.  If outdoor cats had to rely exclusively on hunting to eat, many would 
soon move on to less crowded territory or die of starvation.
