In what I referred to as "Option 1" (where the car is primarily shared between two households) we realized that both households were already using the same insurance company with our respective first cars. Therefore it was easy for me to call my agent (since I'm the owner of the shared car on paper) and simply add my neighbor's name as another driver. In option 2, the owner of the car is simply sharing it with a neighbor. I'm guessing he didn't discuss it with his insurance company but I could ask him if you'd like. Is it okay because you're not hiring it out (profit), just sharing?
