Some of us at Rocky Hill CoHousing own and tend to a flock of chickens. There were initial start-up costs and then the ongoing costs of feed, hay and other supplies. Members each take a week to care for the chickens and harvest the eggs. We have coop clean-out days twice a year. We have a paying structure for members who buy in--they buy out those who drop out that takes the deprecating value of the coop and run into account. It sounds good, but we are wondering if others have a chicken collective and how you work the financing. Some members are reluctant to buy in due to the cost of reimbursing past members for the start-up costs. Thanks for your comments and suggestions!
