Dues and other expenses

Hi Marty,

While I hear that many cohousing communities charge based on square footage, we
decided that this didn’t make sense since it doesn’t affect usage of common
facilities. We are townhouses, and each home is responsible for their own
repairs and maintenance.

We ended up charging a flat rate per household for our main HOA dues which
covers the reserves, maintenance and utilities. We have a separate budget we
call “community dues”, and this is charged based on the number of people in the
household. Community dues covers parties, childcare, garden expenses,
trainings, and the like.
