I gaze longingly at tiny houses with their deft use of space and clever built-ins. In an effort to downsize, I discovered that I have 1000+ books, boxes and boxes of arts and crafts supplies — those would take a tiny house all to themselves. But the space I actually use, the space I physically occupy, and the space taken up by things I use every day (computer, refrigerator, countertop oven, bed, chairs, bathroom) is less than half my unit. We have no micro units which would be sufficient and even welcomed by both elders and youngers. But we keep building for the great in-between, the 30-60-year-olds.
