RE: members leaving the community

One of the things we have done, more or less consistently, is to give the
departing family a photo album, with each household contributing a picture
and a note. We have been told that this is one of the most treasured
processions that some of our former members have. We also have done a
variety of exit events, each one designed around the family itself. One
family we had a rocking dance party, another, a quiet personal sharing
circle of memories. I don't think any two events have been the same, and
some folks have specifically asked for no event please, and we honor that as
well. Saying goodbye is hard sometimes, its kind of like loosing a family
member who is moving away.

One thing we have not done and I wish we had, is to make a wall of
remembrance, a collection of photos and notes about the various people who
have lived here and moved on. I no longer recall for example, when a certain
family arrived, but do recall when they left. I wish we had kept this up
over the years so when we do our retreat ceremony, we could honor them
better.
