I agree (any excuse for a party - right?) but I'm trying to find some
answers to people who feel differently. Any successful ways you've found to
convince people of your view?

Personally, I would rather see people be tolerant and accepting of other
beliefs and celebrations.  As a member of a minority religion, I would
rather see everything celebrated instead of nothing celebrated.
