Hi-

I think one could reasonably choose to consent to a decision, given the 
situation you posited. The person might not be thinking or feeling clearly, and 
could simply decide to trust the group. 

Standing aside has a strong whiff of reluctance to accept a decision. Attending 
the meeting and giving consent out of trust smells very different to me.
