In many places a gas backup would be very important. In rural areas, near the 
ocean, is not yet a reliable heating or cooking resource. Places like Florida 
have hurricane meal plans — no cooking or refrigeration required. Having a gas 
in the CH sounds like a good backup.

Another thing to explore is that in some places the electric companies have 
special for all-electric residential units. You have to explore this and be 
sure to have it applied. One condo I lived in had given the builder some kind 
of incentive to build all electric, so he did, but they didn’t apply the 
special rate. It was months and months before he noticed and a long debate 
while people talked to people inside.
