I must say, I heartily recommend posting Profiles directly to the list! What we are doing here on the list is about creating community, and IS a community itself. We should treat it as such; have you ever been to a meeting where new members aren't introduced at the start? Where people don't say hello to each other and make contact? We need an electronic version of what we all do at our physical meetings! There has been a recent message thread regarding "Opening Meetings"; note that each idea is designed to open us up, see each other, and make contact. Posting Profiles privately completely negates that intention. One of the other lists I subscribe to, (which is not about community), posts "Member Bio's" to the list, and it is very popular, works very well, and takes up almost no room, once the initial flurry of current members is over. In a previous message I suggested that there be a Profile Template (easier to respond to as well as to read than an open "essay" format), and that this Template be included in the "You are now subscribed to Cohousing-L" automatic message all new subscribers recieve. I still think this is the way to make it work. Just fill in the blanks, cut and post it. Optional essay responses would be hard to read and evaluate, and probably would be done only by us overly creative types. Who we really need to hear from are the quieter people; we should set this up so that happens. Just like we do at physical meetings. Buzz Burrell Boulder One of the other lists I subscribe to does this, and everybody just loves it. 1. It takes far less space than one thinks. 2. This is community!
