I will not speak for other members of Bellingham Cohousing, but the
key to maintaining my own personal momentum during our several
formative years was to take periodic note of the value of all that I
was learning and doing in the meantime. Distant goals (e.g. building
and occupying a community) are all well and good, but this alone
would not have sufficed to keep me involved in the process for so
many years. It was the fact that there were genuine and immediate
rewards that kept me going.

Of course, I'm not saying that these rewards were always apparent, or
that I didn't sometimes question their value relative to the amount
of time and effort they cost me. Often, the whole thing seemed
absurdly out of whack (for example, I am not a meeting person, and I
am not known for my patience in dealing with certain sorts of people
or situations). But I could say much the same about anything else
I've done, and unlike many of those other things, this process led to
community.

Hope that helps.

Mark
