Many if not most of our members moved from other areas (quite a few from CA). Ithaca being a smallish isolated college town, there's a limited local population to draw from. I believe our website has been the #1 way that people have discovered our community. It probably pays to put some time into making a quality website that conveys your ideals, enthusiasm, and talks up the good points of your town/city/region. A good number of our residents are Cornell alumni who returned to Ithaca after many years away. Might be wise to target ads to alumni of local colleges, if you have them. One outreach method we have used is co-sponsoring eco-oriented talks & events at the local colleges.I find that the number one blind spot in communities marketing themselves is people in other areas who will move for cohousing.
