Cohousing as a transformational influence upon society Was: Teeth in Rules

Moz and CoHo:

Not yet being a cohouser when I subscribed, I suppose I had a bit of a utopian view of cohousing as a transforming influence on how humans from fractured environments reintegrate into social wholes again and thus become the enlightened future of both urban and rural living. Living together has long been quite a challenge, and it must be more so.

I would be most interested in what keeps cohousing communities together and what causes their disintegration.

PS: I'd be especially interested in Moz's "backstory," as I would in that of someone perfectly content with their cohousing experience.

We try to follow Rob Sandelin's excellent advice: if you are doing
too much and resenting how much others are or aren't doing - take
a step back and either do less or change your attitude.

Unfortunately we have a few people who used to drive the group forward
who have taken Rob's advice. First they stopped working, then they
decided that co-housing is not for them. At this stage I've done the
former and am close to changing my attitude as well, from "do the work
or get out" to "cohousing is not for me".

Rob's advice only works if everyone is trapped in the group. Cohousing
relies on people having a huge amount of money tied up in their property
that they can't easily extract. Which kind of works once you're
established, but for groups trying to build a cohousing community the
coercive power is not there.
