Both necessary and appropriate, from seeing the alternative elsewhere
(interesting, thoughtful content totally drowned out by noise).
At least one.  If there were a few that might work too.  It is precisely this
that makes this list worth reading.  A well moderated list is a great treasure.

Yes.  If you disagree, start and moderate your own list.  You will be free
to formally specify your standards.  If you do a great job, then in 10 years
folks can complain that they are too formal and standardized :-).
