After living in many buildings where there was a trash chute and many where
there wasn't one, I much, much, much prefer that there be one. There are
probably not many in cohousing, however, because not many are tall.

The chutes were never a problem in terms of things getting stuck. The door
where you put things in is smaller than the actual chute so that prevents
people from putting things in that are too large. If something does get
stuck, another bag coming down dislodges it.

You will have a cleaner building and fewer cockroaches with a trash chute.
While some people go out everyday with an extra hand to carry trash, not
everyone does. And with a trash chute, you put out the trash every night. If
you live on the fourth floor you are not going down just to put out the
trash.
