Child-care during General Meetings is a regular budget item at CambridgeCohousing, although we don't always need it these days. I haven't heard any grumbling about it. My own feelings are these. I wanted and continue to want to live in a community where there are young children and if it costs a few extra dollars a year, so be it. It is important to me that we try to make things work for all our community members - most of the community is handicapped accessible, for instance - and that includes children and their parents. I want to make it easy for parents to attend our meetings - they represent a point of view different from that of us singles. The community needs to decide whether it wants to subsidize child care for meetings and, if so, put it in the budget. I can't imagine expecting the parents to "beg" for money! In my experience when trying to fund our landscaping efforts, "voluntary" contributions are the ones that start to breed resentment, when some people realize that not everyone else is "volunteering" to give either money or effort to the fund.
