Thanks for bringing it up. I don't agree with your dichotomy, though. If the community "should" pay for child care, then those without children "should" be willing to give the money to do it, as a duty, not as a gift. If the community "shouldn't" pay for child care, then those with children "shouldn't" expect it, and those without children "should" expect some gratitude. Your summary already assumes that the community isn't required to pay for childcare. It would seem to me that's the first issue to settle.
