We are just beginning to explore creating a cohousing community since moving to Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada. It is a city of 47,000 which serves as the bedroom community for about 6,000 well paid workers (and their families) employed at the Tar Sand mines & plants which are north of the city. The planner at the city wondered how common meals would work for rotating shift workers. Have other communities had shift workers that wished to participate according to their schedule? Are any common houses open and active 24/7? What about preparing extra meals that are then packaged and stored for reheating later?
