I forgot to say that we generally let the community know if there is  
a non-community event going on along with any special requests, such  
as "enter the laundry room via the basement door" or "meditation in  
progress: please do not disturb." We use the private listserv for our  
community members, the bulletin board, and also the entrance doors.  
Seems to work.
